Kareol Cast Bronze Approximately 5-1/2" along the base and
about 4" tall ©2008 This title comes from Tristan's castle in France (which I think was either in Normandy or Brittany). In this French vein I couldn't help but think how this reminds me of Rodin's Burghers of Calais. Hence my working title was The Burghers of Calais and their Extended Families. I used little sage twigs collected in and around Pocatello. Once covered with wax, they looked like little figures. This piece is also a one-off, with the original pattern of sticks, wax and paper being destroyed during the burn-out process during mold-making.

I'm in Pocatello, Idaho this Fall to pursue my MFA at Idaho State University! It took me 22 years to go back to school. My intention is to teach art at the college level after I've completed my degree. While at ISU I'll be able to concentrate on my work and to explore different means of expression. Being in a collaborative environment will certainly be a change from what I have now where I hunker-down in my studio and no one sees what I'm doing until it's exhibited in a gallery. Even if you missed my solo show at the Solovei Art Gallery you can see photographs of the show here including a panorama! Click here for Liz Martini's wild paparazzi photos from the big event. |
